Brainstorming is a method used to generate multiple ideas about a subject. Brainstormings are a method often used by business analysts in their work.

Business analysts can gather and brainstorm stakeholders in an environment to generate creative ideas.

Brainstorming is an activity that we often do in daily business and reach very valuable ideas when applied correctly. However, business analysts at every meeting or in every technique may cause a loss of time if they can not properly apply the rules of the brainstorming. Success can be achieved if the brainstorming is carried out within the framework of the following rules:

It should not be forgotten that the brainstorming is a meeting and it must be the boards of this meeting. Everyone should obey the rules.

The issue to be addressed in the brainstorm should be written in a way that all participants will see. Thus, the framework of the subject is determined.

The meeting should be conducted with a manageable group. The team should not be crowded; A number of participants of 5-6 people is very suitable. A larger group may mean more information, but waiting to speak can be annoying. Rather than increasing the number of participants, the number of brainstorming meetings should be increased.

The duration of the brainstorming session should be clearly defined. A timekeeper must be assigned to control the time.

Assessment criteria should be established in order to evaluate ideas. These criteria must be declared for everyone to know.

Brainstormings can not be held without a license. One should be assigned to facilitate the task and this person should try to give a new perspective by asking the right questions.

Brainstormings are given as one of the 50 techs that business analysts need to know in IIBA BABOK V3. Business analysts should be able to effectively use the brain storm at almost every stage of their work.

Including Brainstorming technique, all of the business analysis techniques, IIBA Business Analysis Techniques are taught practically, together with the case scenarios in the training.
